Public Utility Commission is working with utility companies to force “smart meters” on consumers.
I am writing about the dangers of “smart meters” and the way the state Public Utility Commission is implementing Act 129, working with utility companies not to protect consumers but to coerce them into having these dangerous meters installed on their homes and properties, against their will and without their consent, with the threat of having their electricity shut off if they fail to comply.
The studies showing the harmful effects of the radiation from electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, continue to pile up. These studies are being ignored, and residents are being told these meters are safe and produce less radiation than cellphones or Wi-Fi routers. This is untrue. These meters are an entirely different ballgame, and even though Wi-Fi and cellphones are also harmful, individuals who didn’t notice the effects of these are unable to function in their own homes after a smart meter is installed. There is a very informative TED Talk done by Jeromy Johnson, who describes his health issues that started after a smart meter was installed on his home. Such stories are becoming more common as the smart meter rollout continues across the state.
These EMFs are adversely affecting everyone, even if they are unaware of it. Some members of the population are so sensitive that they are unable to stay in their homes or workplaces because they are so strongly affected.
Residents should not have to fight to stop the utilities from harming them.
Since the controversial introduction of smart meters in the City of Johannesburg in 2015, many residents have complained of incorrect readings and meters running, even when the power is out.
But that said, could there be a darker side to these ‘convenient’ meters?
According to many, including experts and concern groups, the answer is “Yes”.
According to EMF Safety Network’s website, “Military studies show [that] pulsed radio frequency, which leads to radio frequency radiation (RFR), which is radiated by certain devices including smart meters, can cause serious health problems, including tinnitus, memory loss and seizures. Thousands of studies link biological effects to RFR exposure, including increased cancer risk, damage to the nervous system, adverse reproductive effects, DNA damage, and more. The top public health official in Santa Cruz County California prepared a report, confirming smart meters pose a health risk”.
Another expert, Dr David Carpenter, a graduate of Harvard Medical School and a physician who has worked in the area of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and public health for over 18 years, has also warned utility companies that are forcing smart meters down the throats of their customers.
“Carpenter adamantly insists that there is no evidence whatsoever that smart meters are in any way safe for human beings. He goes on to say that there is, in fact, ample evidence that demonstrates ‘convincingly and consistently’ that exposure to radio frequency radiation (RFR) at elevated levels for long periods of time increases the risk of cancer, damages the nervous system, and adversely affects the reproductive organs”, according to TheHealthyHomeEconomist.com
